Parents Council Program

FAQs about Parents Council
Important information for NEW and RETURNING parents:

Parents Council asks each family to provide the school with at least 8 hours of service during the
school year OR pay a $300 fee to Parents Council by August 31st. Parents Council is a parent
organization that works to support and strengthen the mission of our school community through
various activities and volunteer opportunities. Parents Council depends greatly upon parents
providing the school with service hours to ensure our fundraising efforts are successful.

To sign up for jobs to earn hours, visit www.newberryacademy.com and find
Parents Council under Programs. Here you will be able to view and schedule your volunteer
hours for the school year. After choosing your top three choices of jobs from the list of available jobs,
you will be able to submit your job preferences. Parents Council will then assign you a job from your
submission and update your name on the list. The link to view jobs is your source for your assigned
jobs.

What is Parent’s Council and what do we do?
A. If your child attends Newberry Academy, then you are automatically a member of Parent’s
Council. Our goal is to help improve our children’s academic education along with the
environment in which they learn while seeking guidance from administrators, faculty, staff, and
approval from the NA Board of Directors. We invite you to get involved with Parents
Council and the families represented here. Join us for our meetings on the last Monday
of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Lunchroom or Library.
B. We are responsible, along with the lunch coordinator, for organizing the Steak Suppers (2 per
year) and several other school activities. These include Student Appreciation Day, National
Education Week, the Holiday Market, and family involvement activities.
C. In recent years, Parents Council projects have included a new kitchen, painting/updating the
front Elementary hallway, and purchasing new chairs to be used for various programs
throughout the school year. Most recently we have jointly along with the school budget been
able to remodel the high school bathrooms and install new flooring throughout the Elementary
building. Each of these projects is a direct result of parents working together and being
involved.

What are our goals for the upcoming year?
General goals include to finish paying for new flooring in the Elementary building,
helping to address storage concerns, and new curtains for the stage.
