Shotgun Team

Newberry Academy offers 7th through 12th Grade students the opportunity to become part of the school's Shotgun Team. Each athlete will learn firearm safety while competing in the following disciplines: Sporting Clays, Skeet and Trap. Team members will compete on both the State and National levels in all disciplines while also competing for scholarships. A more in-depth description of skills and requirements are discussed at the team interest meeting each season.

Team Requirements:

  • Be in good standing as an athlete as mandated by the SCISA Athletic Handbook
  • General knowledge and understanding of firearm safety
  • Team members will be required to wear the team jersey
  • Team members will be required to provide practice shells and provide his/her own firearm at practice if she/he has one
  • Absolutely no firearm is to be brought onto the school campus at anytime as stated by the State of South Carolina and Newberry Academy. All practices are held away from school grounds for this reason so at no time will your athlete have a need to have their team firearm on campus.

Practices begin after November 4th in accordance with the SCISA Blue Book. Practice lasts for approximately 2-hours and a schedule will be given out at the Team interest meeting in September. At least one parent must attend the meeting with the interested student.

If you or your child has an interest in participating, please contact Head Coach Stanley Mills at (803) 924-0023 or Assistant Coach Paula Mills at (803) 924-0740.
