The Newberry Academy Student Government strives to focus on the student body. Our goal is to promote a learning environment which is both educational and fun for students. Because of our commitment to excellence, we feel a strong sense of pride in our school. Because we are small in number, we feel a strong sense of unity.
SGA sponsors many activities through the year to promote school spirit. During homecoming, we sponsor Spirit Week for the entire school. We have the usual tacky day and inside-out day, but this year we were allowed to have CASUAL DAY! Students were granted on special day to come to school in their flip-flops and sweats. We also design and order homecoming t-shirts for 3-K through 12th grade. Alumni gather in our hospitality room for refreshments and a chance to become reacquainted with old friends.
On the last day of school, prior to Christmas break, we host a Christmas party for the high school. This provides a much needed break after a grueling week of exams.
We have recently signed up with Global Resource Funding, which is a recycling program. We are now able to recycle toner/laser cartridges, iPods, laptops, inkjet cartridges and used cell phones. We have drop-off sites located around the school, and we hope this program will turn waste into CASH! Not only is this easy way to raise funds for our school, but it also teaches valuable lessons about the variety of materials that can be recycled and helps develop life long patterns of recycling.
We are currently working on a memorial garden to be dedicated to one of our favorite teachers who recently passed away. We hope to begin planting trees and shrubs soon.

· If all of the empty ink cartridges that are thrown away each year were stacked end to end, they would circle the earth.
· A typical consumer ...
recycles through a new cell phone every 10-12 months due to increasing technology.
· Each discarded empty laser printer cartridge adds approx. three pounds of wastes to out landfills.
Everyday huge numbers of inkjets, toner/laser cartridges, iPods, laptops, and cells phones are discarded and sit in America's landfills. Please help us save the Earth and earn extra cash for our school by recycling these items. There is a large bin in the main hallway of our school for convenient drop-off.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this program last year. Your involvement is greatly appreciated. Let's keep up the great work!
